Notes: Unfinished set of drabbles based on prompts from [livejournal.com profile] 18coda.

1. a cappella (Italian: a, in the manner of + cappella, chapel, choir)
one or more vocalists performing without an accompaniment

The nature of Purgatorium was both a blessing and a curse. Death was impermanent, yes, but even that came at a cost. People came and went, and could disappear at a moment's notice. Though they could come back, even that was up to chance. For all the comfort Purgatorium gave him, it also left Allelujah with a terrifying fear—that he was powerless to stop Lockon, Lyle, and everyone else for that matter from leaving him, maybe even forever. It was all up to luck, since the world didn't seem to operate on logic. He'd just have to keep praying.

2. cadence (Latin: cadēns, cadent-, present participle of cadere, to fall)
a sequence of chords that brings an end to a phrase, either in the middle or the end of a composition

He wasn't sure how things would end, if they would even end. Perhaps they would be in this place for eternity, and there wouldn't be an end. But if they went home...he wasn't sure at all. There were too many variables. What if he couldn't save Lockon? Some said that the universe would end not with a bang, but with a whimper; his would have ended with a bang, and his own end wouldn't be long after, he was sure. But if he made it past that, then they'd just have to see what kind of future they could build.

3. canon (Latin: a measuring line, rule, model)
a musical form where the melody or tune is imitated by individual parts at regular intervals. The individual parts may enter at different measures and pitches. The tune may also be played at different speeds, backwards, or inverted.

Hallelujah. Allelujah, add the H, but he'd always thought that Allelujah deserved the longer name. He was the greater presence, after all. That'd been changing more and more over the past year and a half, however. Where he was once just a small part of the greater whole, he'd become—not half of it, but something different and yet the same. Most importantly, however, something that was there nearly just as much now. How different was he in the end, though, Hallelujah wondered? How different, when the traits of Allelujah's he'd so often shunned were becoming some of his own?

4. dolce (Italian: sweet)
Sweet or sweetly

"It's not very difficult to just make it yourselves," Allelujah attempted to explain to the Dylandys as they stood in the kitchen. "I love the both of you, but I'm getting sick of having to make pie at your beck and call." The process was extremely simple to him, and incredibly routine by now, so he explained it with detail, going through the motions. But after he let them give it a try and came back to the oven on fire not even an hour later, he decided that maybe it was better to just keep baking for them himself.

5. fermata (Italian: past participle of fermare, to stop; Latin: firmāre, to make firm)
hold or pause~

"Lockon," he hears the voice pleading from under him. "What..Stop teasing...and move already!" He can't just yet, though; Lockon can't help but pause to look at the sight of Allelujah's body underneath him, the chest heaving as the younger Meister tried to catch his breath, the light shimmer of sweat on flushed skin, the deeper flush by high cheekbones and the already far-gone look in half lidded, mismatched eyes. It's at moments like these that Lockon finds him at his most beautiful, and his desire to gaze upon him overrides the urges of his body, just for a little while.
