"It's snow, Setsuna."
The Gundam Meister was staring suspiciously at the white matter underfoot, both him and Saji Crossroad standing just outside of the Celestial Being headquarters. It was mid-December, and the first few inches of snow for the season had settled down onto the ground overnight. Setsuna knelt down, scooping a handful, his bare skin tingling at the feeling.
"It is...cold," he murmured, gaze thoughtful. He looked so serious—and Saji couldn't help but burst out laughing. There was something about the face that Setsuna put on sometimes, to look so serious about the most simple of matters, that was both amusing and yet charming at the same time.
He knelt down next to him, laughter dying down to a small grin as Setsuna looked at him. "That's pretty obvious, wouldn't you think? It's frozen rain, after all. You've never seen snow before?"
Setsuna shook his head. "...no. I was born and lived in the Middle East, in desert terrain—it never snowed there. Even now that I am with Celestial Being, I have never been sent to a location where I have had the opportunity to see this."
His hand let the snow fall back to the ground, but now, his fingertip was absentmindedly tracing patterns into it. Saji watched for a while, happy at seeing Setsuna so interested, almost childlike in his fascination. It took him several moments to realize that the tracing wasn't so absentminded after all, and that the Meister was actually drawing letters.
S.F.S + S.C
Saji stared at the letters, the meaning slowly sinking into his mind. Tearing his eyes away from them, he looked at Setsuna, who was still thoughtful but hadn't shown much more of a reaction to anything.
"Setsuna...what you just wrote..."
"That is customarily what couples do, don't they? Normally on a tree where it is more permanent, or as graffiti somewhere...but it can be written in the snow as well." Setsuna nodded. The older teen was still all but gawking, hardly believing that Setsuna had actually done that.
When he finally composed himself, Saji leaned in, using his fingertip to trace a heart around the names. "There. Now it's done."
It was small, and it was quick, but he knew he saw a smile on Setsuna's face. Saji grinned and wrapped his arms around the Kurdish boy from behind, giving him a hug. "Come on, then, let's go back inside and warm up."
He hoped that it'd ice over perfectly, somehow. Maybe he could store it somewhere cold and look at it a little more.
